Henderson Garage Door Services began when John Henderson started his own garage door repair and installation company in 1989. Upon his departure from an established garage door manufacturing company at the time, John started with the basics: garage door repair and opener installation. He established the company’s home base in Baytown, TX, which was the closest major city to where he, his wife Tonja, and their new baby were going to start their new lives.
Youngsters Fetching Torsions
To John, the most natural strategy for operating his own business while he repaired garage door openers and springs was to enlist his family as his first employees. Tonja took care of the office, and their son Jonathan helped gather miscellaneous torsions and other small components to help his dad build a motor.
Jonathan recalls starting in the business as young as four years old! One of his earliest memories was fetching torsion springs for his dad or grabbing necessary materials from the truck. They used to buy their openers from Sears, and at that time, you could bolt together rail systems to put on a motor.
By the time Jonathan was seven or eight, he was getting paid two dollars a motor because you could snap them together. He got pretty efficient and could assemble all thirty-two of them in a day, thus getting paid $64 for the day. Not bad for a youngster just starting in the garage door industry!
The Prime of Their Second Generation
When John Henderson embarked on making the family name a mainstay in Baytown, TX over thirty years ago, he could’ve only hoped that Henderson Garage Door Services would become as well established in commercial, residential, and specialty garage doors as they are now. With his father now fully retired, Jonathan holds the reins of Henderson Garage Door Services.
Having worn every hat and performed every role for the local and family-owned business, Jonathan truly loves getting out and meeting people who he can help make their work lives better.
